Columbia first-generation students

Over the past few weeks, Columbia University first-generation and low-income students have gotten significant media attention. It looks like a lot is happening on their campus and I’m excited to see what students accomplish. They’ve done a good job of gaining media attention, which is a great first step to bigger changes!

Jess details her experience as a first-generation student starting college in her late 20’s.

September 26, 2014: Bringing GS to the table by Katherine Celentano

Similar to Jess’ oped, this article points out the flaw of omitting GS students from Tracey’s earlier article.

September 30, 2014: Students discuss shared experiences at inaugural first-generation, low-income group meeting by Elizabeth Sedran

Article discusses the first meeting of the new student advocacy group for first-generation and low-income students.
